Taunus Mountains

The Limes passes the forested altitudes of the Taunus Mountains and encloses the fertile area of the Wetterau in a large curve.

The archaeology as well as conserved and restored construction facilities of the border post Limes, such as Fort "Kleiner Feldberg" and Kapersburg, revive Roman history in the fantasy of the beholder. The most comprehensive overview is provided by the single reconstructed Roman fort at the Limes, the Saalburg near the city of Bad Homburg vor der Hoehe.

Some forts located in remote areas of the Taunus Mountains are well-preserved. On some sites of the Limes wooden and stone watchtowers were reconstructed; all of them can be visited, while some can even be entered.
