About 1,5 km south of Idstein in the district Heftrich, below a field the ground walls of the Numerus fort Alteburg can be found; unfortunately, by today nothing can bee seen on the surface.

The stone fort Alteburg was constructed after the middle of the 2nd century, holding about 150 troops who occupied the fort up to the fall of the Limes 260 AD.

Events

Three times a year the Alteburg Market takes place on the premises of the former fort Alteburg – an odds and cattle market just like in Roman times. For current dates, please contact tourist information in Idstein at www.idstein.de.
