Description

Former Fort

Characteristics

The Roman Fort Kapersburg near Friedrichsdorf-Koeppern is about 7 km in distance from the Saalburg, on an altitude of about 420 meters. The foundation of the latest expansion are in part conserved and visible. On the occasion of the recognition of the Limes as world heritage in July 2005, it has been restored and enhanced with a park.

The fort is located in a remote area within the forest and can only be reached by walking. A good place to start is the district Pfaffenwiesbach of the Wehrheim community.

The fort has been set up at the end of the 1st century during Emperor Trajan´s reign and later replaced by an enlarged stone construction. Its troops stood at about 150 men. Kapersburg´s occupation probably ended with the attacks by the Allemanni in the mid-3rd-century.

Events

Numerous hiking organizations offer guided tours to the Roman Fort Kapersburg at defined dates. The tour guides of the Nature Park Hochtaunus can also be booked for group arrangements.
